Interesting wine. It would be easy when tasting this blind to mistake it for a lower quality wine. It's fruit driven and dense, but there's also a depth and a finesse to it that places it above a mass produced wine. Food friendly and, as I said, interesting. I really like it.

Shows some great underlying fruit, rich and black, heart of the Barossa. For the price this is a big and brash barbecue kind of wine, though not the elegance (or price tag) of the all mighty Command.
Nice choice Cathay business class.

Australian Shirazes & Blends (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Frt, from vines 22-123 yrs old, grown in their Nuriootpa (50%), Greenock (38%), & Craneford (12%) Vyds "on the banks of the N. Para River, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, S. Australia; Aged for 24 mos in predominantly 2nd & 3rd fill AM puncheons;"
N: Smoke slightly atop berries
P: Lm body; NICE frt met by some astringent pucker which loses virtually all its bit by the LONG, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a tangy/SWTNESS to the dusty tannins. Needs/DESERVES through '19, then drinking for 3, poss 4, yrs more. 14.5% ABV; My EXC-, & I'd not consider an argument for more out of line based upon the QPR of this vendor's $21.95, which is in the TOP of the 2nd half of wine-searcher's postings. 92 pts ea James Halliday & The Wine Front.
Note: I found this somewhat less structured than I had on 12/8/2018.

A: Deep ruby with purple at the edges N: Medium nose. Blackberry, black cherry, eucalyptus and mocha.Baking spice and some blueberries (maybe) here. The fruit is overripe and dry. P: Dry, high alcohol, medium (+) acid, intensity, finish, tannin and full body. C: Very good quality. Can lay down but drinking well now.
Guesses: Argentine Malbec or Australian Shiraz. The eucalyptus put me in either of those countries and the black fruit and mocha leaned Malbec while the black and blue fruit suggested Shiraz. The purple highlights indicated either of these grapes. My final guess was Aussie Shiraz as there was enough eucalyptus concentration for it. I expect more in Aussie wines. The lack of black pepper and smoked meat was really odd and surprised Cauble said this was typical because what i was tasting in my glass didn't seem to be. Maybe it needed more time to open up.
