  • Drunk at the Koala Bar - Hong Kong. A bottle bought very reasonably at auction some 7 years ago for which I had limited expectations, so much so that it was served as an aperitif before the main lineup! Absolutely blew my socks off. Beautiful balance, no shortage of fruit, bewitching Rhone nose. In short better than any modern Chapoutier I've had. Can't imagine I'll find this again though (sad face emoji).

  • The ‘66 Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie is a memorable and utterly profound Northern Rhône Syrah. It is very different from the more dense, modern versions of the late 80s, early 90s. The wine is sophisticated and elegant, but still vividly complex showing intense aromatics of sous bois, savory smoked meat, herbs and spices.

Incredibly fresh and alive, the juicy red berried fruit balances seamlessly with its vivacious acidity. Added complex flavors of iron, blood, and wild game round out the insanely delicious palate. Mind blowing Côte-Rôtie.
