Italian Wine Scholar Course at the Texas Wine School. Interesting to try this 100% Gaglioppo again after two years. Clear, bright, medium ruby-garnet with and orange rim. The nose is medium in intensity, youthful, with tart red cherry and an herbal, earthy character which emphasizes aromatic herbs and licorice. No oak. The palate is more expressive, with tart red cherry, lemon zest and licorice, resulting in a bitter-sweet finish. The acidity is medium to medium (+), the tannins are medium and the alcohol is medium (13%). This is a crisp, medium-bodied red, with medium flavor intensity and medium length. It is tasty by itself but even better with food. It is still drinking well, with minor changes since November 2018 and is surprisingly age-worthy and elegant. In a blind tasting, I think I might mistake it for a Schiava or a Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. I'm liking it more and more as the years go by. A very solid value.

Italian Wine Scholar Course at the Texas Wine School. 100% Gaglioppo. Clear, bright, medium ruby-garnet. The nose is medium in intensity, youthful, with an herbal (rosemary, thyme), earthy character. No oak. It brightens up quite a bit on the palate, which is dry, with tart red cherry, and a bitter-sweet, herbal finish. The acidity is medium to medium (+), the tannins are medium and the alcohol is medium (13%). This is a crisp, medium-bodied red, which almost drinks like an intense rose', with medium flavor intensity and medium length. It is tasty by itself but even better with food. It was drinking well in September 2017; with no detectable changes in November 2018. In a blind tasting, it would be very difficult to peg this as a wine from deep Southern Italy. Should pair well with grilled chicken, tomato-based dishes and even hearty fish stews. Tasted three times, with consistent results.

Blind tasting wih friends (Downtown SLC): Never had this grape before was fun to try. Reminded me of a Cru Bojo or entry level Pinot. Red fruits and some organic earth. Not a lot going on, pretty straight forward, but a nice wine

Along the lines of an entry level Beaujolais or Chinon: light, peppery, sweet red fruit nose. Lightly extracted, no apparent oak, medium acidity. Peppery, earthy finish after the fruit fades. Not complex, but almost slurpable, could be served chilled like a rose. Aside from the moderate acidity, doesn't drink like a warmer climate wine.

Excellent grape and a wonderful wine with a mild tomato sauce. Enjoyed with pasta marinara and fresh Dungeness Crab!
