  • This is the oldest wine in my cellar that I actually bought at the winery. I've been caring for this wine for almost 20 years through several moves, and some questionable cellaring. But, at least 90% of the time it lived in a temperature controlled environment. I should have waited longer. It is not even brown on the edges yet. I think I could pour this blind to some wine buddies who would think this is a relatively young Cabernet from Washington state. I'm pretty sure the key to it's longevity it is super over oaked. I think in it's youth you would have had to pick the wood out of your teeth. Even at age 23, I still get serious oak (just think how many wines we have bought that we wished we could cellar for 23 years). It also had one of those very long corks, which as of this point, I am a pure believer. This wine is a testament to the longevity of Howell Mountain Cabernet. The nose is still young and fresh. There is still plum and black cherry fruit, actually tasting young. Super refined mature tannins. There is a nice touch cedar on the smooth finish, which has that softened graphite and road tar. Wow!
