Bodegas Tradicion et al. (Chicago, IL): Served double blind, from a bottle that had been opened the night before. A bit of a volcanic mineral thing on the nose, with pleasant red fruit, and a dusty quality to the tannins. Clearly with a little bit of age. I guessed a riper Etna nerello mascalese. Oof.

Very tight, very floral. Carved from stone with a hint of cherry. Dense and chiseled, build for the long haul, plenty of chalky extract. Great balance and too young.

The New Generation in Burgundy (Zoom!): Clement Boillot notes that this Veroilles is still quite backwards today. It's the highest altitude holding in the Domaine, and the coldest, so you never get any overripeness and there's plenty of tension. There's a lot of pure, juicy fruit underneath, but at the moment again it feels a bit reduced and tannic. Lovely line and length to the wine but it needs time.

Ok first of all it seems like there is a separate rating scale for Burgundy vs Bordeaux. Same critics that would shower 98-99 on a top end Bordeaux, would give like 92-93 to a top burgundy. So I am still trying to figure that out. But coming to the wine, I tried Hubert Lignier Tres Girard and this on back to back days and much preferred Lignier’s style. Barthod felt a bit too tight and jammy. Lignier felt fresher and had already started developing secondary notes - earthy, savory, cheesy. Now Lignier also had 3 more years in the vintage.
