Wine introduction 202 (Morton's - Reston, VA): I brought this as the last bottle was the best example from the batch. Unfortunately this was slightly oxidized. Dark yellow, butterscotch, a hint of smoke and oxidative end note. Clipping finish due to the oxidative note. I drank almost a case from the same pristine source. No great wines, only great bottles!

Impromptu gathering - Cos, Velvet Glove, SQN, Alban, Larkmead and etc. (Charlie Palmer - Washington DC): The same source as the last note but fresher. Yellow citrus fruit driven nose, strong presence of smoke oyster, oyster shell and mushroom that reminds me, a matsutake soup. Deeply toned yellow fruit driven palate impression, mineral a la oyster shell and good length. A good example of nicely mature 1er crus white Burgundy.

Medium gold in color with floral and butterscotch notes on the nose and across the palate. Has a rich fruity almost syrupy pear quality. In my view, butterscotch doesn't belong in the picture with a white burgundy any more than say honey does. The bottle is not defective in the sense of oxidation and such, it is just sort of bizarre in terms of what I expect from a white burgundy. Butterscotch?
This butterscotch quality impacted more than a few 1996 white burgundies. Why? Never seen an explanation. But drinking them, which I could and can, did/does not remotely deliver what I expected when I bought them.

Figeac vs Las Cases: the big guns (Washington, DC): There was some discussion as to whether this bottle was corked at first. The aromatics were muted upon opening. Wet sock and sweaty aromas were picked up faintly, but I thought we simply needed to be a bit more patient with the wine. With some more time, the nose began to emerge, albeit quite muted. very mineral focused with very light hints of peach and lime. The palate was more expressive but not in any sense soaring. The mouthfeel was refined and quite lush, but nevertheless, it is hard to rate as such.

(Niellon Michel Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie) Medium yellow colour. A ripe nose which grows and grows in stature - super. Wider palate than many, with a sweet core of fruit, hints of honey too. Super acidity. This is a lovely bottle.

DC winos belated holiday dinner - Mostly Burg and Bordeaux (Lavandou, Washington DC): Yellow fruits, butter scotch and mint. This bottle is slightly past its peak still enjoyable. I have had better bottles.
