  • Our Annual Champagne Tasting: My bottle. Lots of debate whether this was corked. I tend to think no, but agreed it was some flaw. Wet wool note was definitely out of place. I don't believe anyone finished their glass.

  • Honey and lemon, touch of ginger, some smoke and apple as well. Palate is quite fresh and acid still lines the length, rounding at the edges, feels like this is good to go. Good interest and development.

  • Bubbleclub--April 2022 (all wines served blind) (Opah in Aliso Viejo, CA): Served blind. And forgot I had been served a bottle of this just 2 months ago. Disgorged October 2015, no dosage and 100% PM. When this hit the glasses, the color was reflective of a golden hue. The darkest wine of the 8 we had last night. Stony, some maple (perhaps this is the age coming through?), nectarine, generous and despite the influence of the color, this remains fresh in flavor. This was the final bottle of the night and my palate was getting fatigued so I did the best I could to sense and note some things but my note here is underserving.

  • Sort of blind as I didn't pay attention when I poured it in the glass. I assume based on my initial impressions that it was a blanc de blanc. Poured a little foamy. Initial impression is wow there's a lot of acid. Very angular. This turned off a number of the others but was intriguing. This really changed after about an hour of air, the fruit was exposed as an apricot note and it seemed to gain a little weight but still a strong foundation of acid. The pinot meunier qualities we're definitely more exposed after a little time.

  • So few notes on this, especially anything that is recent. Disgorged October 2015 with no dosage and 100% Pinot Meunier that is farmed biodynamic. And one other fact about Benoit, the wood he uses comes from the local area so uniquely he is 'local' with his barrique program. First time I have tasted the 2012, this is taut and mineral driven, a kind of rocky/stony sensation. Finishes lean and brisk. The wine did fill in some with air but still remained firm. I have opened a # of Benoit's wines and this bottle, this vintage has been the most taut of them all.
