  • Quite light-bodied, the nose is a bit funky, but brings notes of incense, smoke, blueberry, blackberry, olive, minerality, and spice. Palate is juicy and gentle. Needs a bit of air to let the initial funk blow off.

  • Opened up with a very strange, sulfury, urine-like, strange nose. But it blew off pretty quickly and revealed a nice wine, quite light, very good length and fine tannin and good acidity, very drinkable. Good balance.

  • Young and savory but slowly unclenched over the course of dinner. I see the direction where this is going and I like the bit of chewiness it shows in 2013. We generally see Eric and Laurence once a year, twice if we're really lucky. If you can't see your friends, at least you can drink their wines. This will have to do until vaccination.

  • Dinner at Cafe Istanbul (Chicago, IL): Why don't I buy these again? I'm an idiot. Super juicy, but plenty of olive and saline qualities. This is honest syrah as it is meant to be. Lots of acidity, but balanced by the still-youthful black fruit. This probably isn't one for extended aging, but it's delicious now regardless.

  • Made with organically grown Serine (a local Northern Rhône Syrah clone that is prone to diseases with unreliable yields, but producing higher-quality fruit). Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, aged for 30 months in neutral oak barrels. 12% alcohol.

Luminous, moderately translucent black cherry color. The nose feels quite powerful, robust and still pretty ripe with somewhat developed aromas of juicy blackberries, roasted gamey meat, some wizened dark fruits, a little bit of peppery spice, light floral tones, a hint of sweet raisiny fruit and a touch of earth. The wine is bright, lively and medium-bodied with pure and impressively intense flavors of crunchy yet somewhat sweet-toned blackberries, juicy dark fruits, some rich plum liqueur tones, a little bit of wizened black raspberry, light notes of blood, a hint of raisin and a touch of tart cranberry-driven red fruit. The wine is wonderfully high in acidity with firm, somewhat grippy medium tannins. The finish is somewhat grippy, very long and wonderfully juicy with dark-toned flavors of plums, some licorice, a little bit of ripe blackberry, light raisined dried-fruit tones, a hint of earth and a touch of peppery spice.

A very fresh, pure and delicate yet remarkably precise and intense Serine with unmistakable sense of place. The wine is still very fresh and lively, but much more developed than what I anticipated from the previous taste two years ago - I wondered if this bottle has been kept in too warm temperature during that period, since I'd expect a bright, acid-driven Syrah like this develop at a slower pace. Nevertheless, a wonderfully bright, crunchy and harmonious effort that still is among the best wines of the Texier range. Priced according to its quality at 29,70€.
