A night of GG Rieslings (Ok Omens, Portland Oregon): There is a broad, restrained power to the nose as it fills the glass with quince, nectarines, red apples, pears, vanilla beans, candied peaches, nectarines, yellow flowers, and some mineral notes. There is excellent depth with a sense of being that really draws you in. The Medium bodied feel keeps the power and depth of the nose while showing off integrated, high acidity. The acidity makes your mouth water, and this shows off a lovely, long finish. This used the warmth of the vintage and brought out a more broad-shouldered wine with an immediacy that is working perfectly right now.

Drunk over dinner with friends next to two other GGs of the same vintage and producer. Opened a few hours before dinner. No TN, from memory. No clearly discernible fruit on the nose, which already announces the amazing minerality of the wine, giving hints of wet rock and slate, together with floral and spicy (gingerbread) notes. The palate has an amazing weight and is completely driven by its mineral character. Powerful, but not heavy and full of energy. Wonderful. PS: it turned out I waited not 3 but almost 7 years between my first and second bottle.

This is why I love Riesling. Super mineral, powerful but elegant wine, with plenty of pear, green apple, lemon, white flowers, some petrol, high acidity, some flintiness and a long finish. Stunning wine.

Showed well tonight, lots of yellow tropical fruit, interesting peach and orange zest, florals and rocky minerals, generous palate, with well integrated acidity and medium plus finish
