A very approachable, well-made, merlot-dominant Bordeaux, a wine that we used to call "petit Bordeaux". Why so many Bordeaux vintners have migrated to merlot from cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc (and other traditional varietals) is obvious: merlot resists disease better than cabernet franc, ripens earlier and bears better than both. It's all about the $$$. Yet the plethora of merlot-based wines has led to a ho-humness in so much Bordeaux, particularly those from the right bank. They all taste so similar! That said, this is a fine Blaye at a very approachable price.

Limestone and cedar nose with red cherry and rushed stone and mushrooms. Good acidity, dry finish.
