  • First of two bottles.
Mid-shoulder fill, cork totally crumbled , clear signs of seepage.
    Carefully decanted; little sediment.
While the wine had undoubtedly suffered from the cork condition, it still held up admirably well. This just goes to show the strength and balance of the 1966 vintage: the wines seem to age effortlessly.
Nose dominated by earthy, mushroom and smoky aromas. I'm not sure of grape composition but I suspect there's a bit of Cab Sauv in there.
A little wine was left behind in decanter and tasted several hours later.
Surprisingly, the wine had continued to improve and showed better clarity than earlier.
Very impressive for a wine of lesser pedigree...
No hurry to drink the other bottle.

  • This bottle was amazing for its age and pedigree. The wine was so fresh with pure expression of fruit. Very balanced and smooth. Bright red ruby color.

  • -- decanted approx. 1 – 2 hours before tasting --
    -- tasted non-blind over approx. 20 minutes --
    -- same bottle as NathanT's 8/26/18 note --

NOSE: fragrant; mature; stony; clearly Bdx.

    BODY: medium-light bodied.

TASTE: fully mature; a bit on its downslope; good acidity; smooth; leather; no brett. This delivers more on the Nose than it does on the Palate, at this point. Drink Now.
