  • Moderately oxidized. Hopefully it’s just this bottle, as I have one left.

  • This wine is in a most impressive place right now, throwing off scents of molten iron, blood, stones and deeply buried dark purple fruits before the palate entry that is as savage as it is layered and complex. Structured acidity and micro-tannins frame this monstrously impactful Cru Beaujolais. The depth and breadth of presence this wine presents to the palate (particularly the mid-palate) is extreme. I'm not sure if this could really improve much beyond its current peak. I've seen some of these Vissoux wines dry out and lose some of their freshness with decade-plus aging. Not that one need rush to gulp this down. Yes, the intensity is off the charts on this bottle, but it's composed and balanced. Extremely enjoyable bottle tonight.

Edit. Dropping the score a point after night #2 (which was nearly as great as night #1), but the biggest reason was I couldn't justify the 95 after tasting the "2018 Halcon Vineyards Petite Sirah Tierra Theopolis Vineyard" tonight. Let's get real.

  • Served by the glass. Coming from a granitic terrain with south-east orientation, it is very closed on the nose while in the mouth it is energetic but very fresh thanks to a pointed acidity. Obviously it still needs time but its potential seems enormous.

  • Ditto previous notes. After a few days stored at 60 degrees Fahrenheit, this wine really sings. This tells me it has legs. Drink now for it's youthful exuberance, or let it get better with short term cellaring.
