Rhone, lots of it (Chicago, IL): Initially, some potentially interesting elements with orange peel taking a prominent role, but then there's some old oxidative elements, followed by a bitter, likely oak-tainted finish. Par for the course for Chapoutier: bad.

thoroughly enjoyed the educational part about this wine. it was oxidized enough to give the notes of lightly roasted nuts but wasn't enough to call it flawed. had lovely notes of pears and golden apples but lacked acidity to truly enjoy this wine. definitely a conversational piece - wouldn't serve it to anyone who is not a "wine geek"

I shared a bottle of this nectar with some friends during dinner at a restaurant (FYI -- $81 off the menu, which did not seem too bad). Splendid. Rich, full, unctuous, all those types of words/tastes. A perfect white Rhone.

Really wondering where this one will go... Clear yellow/gold in the glass. Older nose of butterscotch, honey and wet hay. In the mouth nicely viscous with firm acidity and a nutty finish which lingers on the mid-palate. Of course aging quite a bit better than any New World Marsanne/Roussannes I've had but I'm wondering if this one is on its way out. Either way, a nice drink tonight and I'm happy I caught it where I did.
