This has always been a very strange bottle of Pinot. Earlier on some bottles drank almost like some secondary fermentation was going on, almost spritzy. Now I am convinced it is some bacterial thing happening. It's not brett, but it is very weird, and not in a good way. Very odd flavor profile, a little vegetal, but not in a "green"/underripe way. Very perplexing, and disappointing from what was such a great producer.

Kind of feel bad drinking these because the label is gone. Super wine but I was stating straight out of an ice bucket so the palate suffered. Sweet red fruit. Yummy quality.

My final Clos Pepe I own, the cellar is now Pepe-less. This 2005 drank terrific and what impressed me was the youthful, fresh quality it continues to show after a dozen years. I didn't sense any 2ndary notes or aged qualities but instead a fresh, lightly jammy kind of taste that was delicious. Not certain this will keep aging along though as the acidity seemed light to me so my sense is to open and enjoy now, to receive the pleasure from what this wine holds.

This was not a great bottle. For the first two hours of being open, it was pretty volatile and had an acrid finish. But after mellowing out, the wine displayed ripe notes of black plum, black cherry, and sous bois. A bit one dimensional and syrupy on the palate. I have had better versions of this wine in the past; I hope it is not past its prime.

Subsequent notes on this wine from about three years ago. Deep, dark crimson in color. Forward, fragrant & attractive nose of complex, ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of spice notes of cinnamon & cloves & floral notes of roses, pepper, cola, some cedar, herbs, earthy, minerals & a hint of cedar & vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, still vibrant, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, strawberries, tart cranberries with cola, spices, herbs, minerals & a touch of creamy vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the fruit & structure to possibly develop even further with additional aging. A lovely & seamless fruit-driven Pinot.
