Transparent tawny Aromas of leather, cherry liqueur, pond water, prune and wet soil. Finely grained lively tannins. Sour cherry acids and delicate cranberry bitterness. Palate of plum pie, lavender, black olive, grilled steak and forest floor. A mature yet vital and complex wine with fading delicate fruit, wonderful mouthfeel with fine acidity and a fairly long mineral finish. Beautiful wine slightly past its peak. From a magnum bottle. Tasted alongside Chapoutier, Cote-Rotie, 1978 and the matched wine is purer, better balanced and shows even more class. The present wine has riper fruit and generosity.

Another solid bottle of this; still mainly secondary with just light tertiary notes. More balanced and pleasing than the somewhat stern, more acidic bottle consumed a couple years ago.

Bottle appeared pristine until capsule removed and slightly depressed cork revealed; cork did come out intact; decent garnet color with brick to clear rim; soft nose of mature red cherry fruit and plum; chocolate- covered cherry palate with good weight and plenty of acidity for a very long, ripe but definitely dry finish. Lacking the charm and autumnal magic I love but this is good as described by others below. 91+

Medium ruby color. Shy nose of red fruit, earth and Asian spice; same in mouth, plus a little oak on the finish. This was delightful. Finish is short, but just lovely on the palate. Fading but still delicious; don't wait too long.

1983 Red Burgundy Flight (Hillside Supper Club, San Francisco): Red with some cloudiness. Completely mature aromas with sous bois and earth. Light weight, soft red fruit, a good deal of soil, faded tannins. This is in superb shape and showing very well.
