Medium ruby color. Violet floral nose. Black plum and cherry fruit on the palate, with some sappiness. Medium intensity, but still fairly primary. THis is nice, but not what I had hoped it would evolve into. Continue to hold in hopes of more evolution.

Against good judgement, I opened this too early. Tightly wound and very primary. Nevertheless, the purity of fruit and balance suggests this will evolve into a beauty in 5-10 years.

Wow this was tight; I don't normally drink Gouges young, but I thought maybe the velvet 2015 fruit concentration would make this approachable; I was wrong; the nose was tight and grudgingly revealed ripe red fruits and earthy humus, a hint of violet; the palate was wound up as tight as a drum; I can feel the potential, but the tannins are keeping the fruit under wraps; that said there is plenty of acidity as well; I left 1/2 the bottle to re-visit tomorrow.
Definitely improved on night 2; the nose shows classic NSG earthy and underbrush, the fruit is a bit riper and there are some spice and herb notes; the palate is also much more open, but there is still substantial structure; the acidity remains juicy and quite fresh for the vintage. I'd say if you must drink this now, give it as long a decant as you can; otherwise I think 5-7 more years in the cellar will be good and it will likely drink well for another 2 decades.

Solid enjoyable black cherries, earthy not complex, well balanced, easy but with grip. Didn’t evolve much over two hours

A revoir!
