Initial scents of berry in the bottle. Soft scent overall. Decanted and Venturied. Sweet soft scent of chocolate on the nose. Pour in large red wine glass, lush deep velvet red colour. Good clarity when held to the light. Swirl in glass leaves lovely residue on the sides that stays a while before slowly drifting down to the wine in the glass. Smelling in glass discovers blueberry and blackberry scents. Taste: ever so smooth, subtle berry flavours with slight sweet tones (not tart or acidic). Beautiful chocolate overtones. Drinks like perfection. Medium to full bodied but full of flavour. Warming alcohol content. Well worth the 10 year wait!

A big, bold mid-range South Australian Shiraz, nicely rounded off by a few years in the cellar. Gum tree and menthol on the nose, serious initial flavour hit of ripe boysenberry and doris plum, drying through the mid-palate and finishing with a hint of oaky sweetness. A thoroughly decent wine - as always - lacking only for a little complexity.

Good, but not as good as in past years. Don't know if it was the vintage year or whether D'Arenberg has been bought out by Constellation or similar who focus on lowering quality and upping profits. A good basic jammy/alcohol bomb Shiraz, but nothing special, no special characteristics or depth. D'Arenberg used to be my "go to" for Aussie reds, but I am questioning that now... This is a drink now, do not see any ageability.

Great wine at a reasonable price. Getting close to its prime, don’t wait much longer to drink.
