  • By the glass at the BA Lounge, LHR. Freshly opened.
Either this is wrong or fully burnt out. We hope is the latter. Pointless to rate..

  • Nice cool, almost cool climate shiraz. Mature tannins and some spice, probably from oak. Good food wine.

  • I am not a fan of overly-extracted Aussie Shiraz, which this is, but it is fairly well-done and at this point in its evolution the 2016 is drinking well. Recommend serving with burgers, pizza or something that calls for a robust red. Alcohol 15%.
Don't see this as the 90 rating the wine mags gave, but isn't that almost always the case? Still probably a good deal for those who like this style and for the price it is a good deal...just not into in your face reds, but I did not subtract the score for my preferences.

  • Christmas Eve horizontal with the broadly similar 2016 Two Hands Angels' Share McLaren Vale. Served with a lamb shoulder roast over onions, rosemary, and thyme as well as potatoes, carrots, and Brussels sprouts.

Nose is exuberant with spice and flowers (lavender?), but the palate is much more austere, which is not something I'm used to saying about a wine from d'Arenberg. Bone dry blackberry, cedar, leather, vanilla, and just a touch of cinnamon. Considerable tannins. I've had several bottles of this vintage, but this is the most astringent of the bunch. Fortunately, that astringency is useful for cutting through the unctuousness of lamb fat.

It would be ridiculous to say I didn't care for it, but this bottle is more dry and tannic than I would usually expect from the Osborns.
