Double blind. Garnet core with significant bricking. Opens with notes of red fruit and roasted meat, followed by cherry compote and spice. Tannins are soft- there's a plush quality to the wine that I like. Flavors of currants, plum and toasted red fruit and spice. Medium finish. This doesn't stand out to me as a particular variety so I defaulted to syrah.

SFYC Heritage Lunch 1996 Arns Cab from magnum and paired with game dishes including elk-venison stroganoff, bison chili, pheasant marsala, smoked duck and rock cod. 1996 one of Sandi's best cabs. Tannins are soft with good red fruit. Trace of alcohol on the nose but holding up well in the 1.5L bottle. A favorite at our table.

The Arns was medium to full bodied with dark garnet color. After opening, it still remained a bit closed and tight with subdued black berry and black raspberry fruits offset by a layer of cassis, tea, and baking spice, with subtle tones of spicy oak, with subtle tannins on a moderate short finish, perhaps indicative of its age.

Red and dark cherry flavors, licorice and anise, nice long finish, drinking nicely, with plenty of time to go.
