  • This is a really lovely port drunk far too young. It took a very long time to open, but when it did some really nice notes of strawberry, lavender, lilac playing to an overall rich but not overly heavy wine. A nicely tannic, drying finish that was maybe a bit too grippy now will, I suspect, only become more refined with age. This is one to keep in the bottle for a good while longer, and it should reward you for your patience

  • So here's what i did
First I took a zip when opening the bottle. Could tell that it needed to breathe, so....

I poured the wine from the bottle into a decanter and let it sit for one hour.
In that hour the bottle went into the fridge.
After the one hour I took, the now cold, bottle out of the fridge and poured the wine back in = so an hour of decanting including a double decant, for this wine.
    Tasted over 4 hours
    --------‐------------------------

    The nose:
Still very muted (impressive) but a big swirl gives me prune, raisin, plum, alcohol, figs, oak/wood and creamy semi-dark chocolate.

    The palate:
Big player here is chocolate. Melts right on the tounge. Fruity notes with plum, figs and raisin. Oak yet again.
It does feel more fruity than wine thats 20 years old, but somehow closed at this age. So again, a long decant will benefit. As the time goes, a creamy mocha/chocolate comes up. The wine is getting more round, more balanced.

    Acidity medium
    Tannin high
    Full body
    Sweetness medium+

It should at last have 4-6 hour decant before drinking

  • Quite good for the closeout price I picked this up at. Dark fruits and heavy on the clove, licorice and pepper. Still quite grippy and could use a good decant to soften it up a bit.

  • Deep purple in glass. Mulberry, cassis liquor, plum, cloves and minerality. Cool acidity balanced by the tannins. No discernible heat. Medium plus finish. Held up well after 3 days. Quite enjoyable for the price.
