  • Pop and pour. On the nose: chalk, olive and blackberry. On the palate: amazing density and excellent acidity; black raspberry, chalky baking spice, 95% chocolate, and dense tannin on the surprisingly juicy finish. At this stage, seems like very dark chocolate is the preferred pairing; clashed a bit with acid in our maitake mushroom, spinach, orzo salad.

  • Tasted via Coravin... holy cow does this wine pop. A bit subtle on the nose but as soon as it hit the heat of the tongue does the wine show. Big, bright red and black fruit, think olallieberry. Bacon, herb and deep floral finish. Bright, juicy acid whets the mouth and plenty of bite from medium+ tannin. So much more expressive compared to just tried '15.

  • On the second day this is a champ. There's greater depth and grip, and there's a wicked fennel seed note on the nose that is super compelling. Really pretty wine and perhaps with more promise for the future than I suspected.

  • This wine varies greatly from vintage to vintage. Unlike the 2015, which is so dense LIGO goes off when you drink it, in this go-round the wine is lighter bodied but full of flavor - deep dark berry liqueur, bark, notes of chocolate, juicy and fresh. This is an early drinker.
