For the money ($25) this delivers in spades! Color: Purple red, dared red at the core Nose & palate: Licorice, black currants, blueberry, camp fire embers, Pepper and meaty notes generously serve up a complex nose. On the palate the aroma are expressed with more concentration on the fruit and a twinge of granite. The tannins are young and therefore very much present. The beauty is the palate presence is medium with juicy, fresh acidity. Bravo!

Fruit forward on the nose with a hint of bacon in the background. Some slight warm spice with very floral, elegant notes. Plums, dark red fruit, anise on the finish. Just a slight faux grape juice note. Big chewy tannins. At $25, this holds up pretty well against far more expensive Northern Rhone wines.

Some nasty good Syrah from Dom Cote Sainte-Epine here. Deep ruby in color. A very sweet sexy nose of violets, vanilla, port wine, blueberry, spice box, and a hint of chocolate. A lot of black currant on the attack with classic northern Rhone blueberry fruit and stony minerality on the mid palate. Tannins are aggressive but sweet and grippy not clunky. An excellent young St. Joseph.
