This was quite a pleasant surprise, being a lower-priced wine from an abnormally hot vintage - and stored in less than pristine conditions. Medium (+) ruby-garnet. The nose is remarkably clean, with ripe red fruit, dried black fruit, forest floor, mocha and subtle oak spice. The structure is all there and the wine quite well-balanced, with medium acidity, alcohol (13.5%) and tannins. Medium bodied, with good flavor intensity and length. It paired well with grilled meats but then softened up considerably. I certainly would not age it any longer, but this is drinking remarkably well and exceeds all expectations.

Bold and pleasant nose with a note of swiss cheese. Highly tannic with moderate oak. Astringent on the lips and sides of the tongue. Most of the fruit has faded and the cab franc is really showing its muscle. Remnants of dark cherry, but not much more fruit than that. Herbal notes have mostly faded, too, but are still lightly present. Mid to forward on the palate. Would be an excellent pairing with charred beef.

Disappointing. Not that I thought it would be great, but I had hopes of it being a sleeper like the 2000 was. Not so. The nose had some light funk, dark fruits but subdued, very oaky. Very tannic and harsh for 24-36 hours, finally mellowed a bit, but was still sharp and the palate was somewhat thin, eith a bit of heat on the finish.

For a lesser 2003 from the right bank, this is remarkably vice free in terms of adequate fruit and not too overpowering tannins. For all that it is slightly pedestrian but perfectly okay for another year or too. Expect more from better vintages.

Nice, less expensive Bordeaux. Lighter color, Merlot nose and medium length palate. Tannins are drying, acidity balanced. Priced appropriately.
