Didn’t really taste like syrah to me, it was much more Bordeaux-like. That being said, it was very tasty and probably just now entering peak drinking window and will probably continue to drink well for quite some time.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $60+ (Alpharetta, GA): Cloudy maroon with a lighter rim; high toned, new oak, balm, plum, cherry, roses, menthol; currants on the palate, more body that nose suggests, a little dill, chocolate, higher alcohol, chocolate covered cherries, fleshy but firm tannin; tasty but not varietally correct, most in Spain, I was in St. Emilion.

Last time I had this wine was in 2009. I am glad I waited 6+ years to open this! In its youth, it was so opulent and rich. With time, it has balanced out. While still rich and spicy - think clove & cinnamon - it also has balanced tannins, freshness and a very long finish. With pork ribs this was a knockout.

Decanted for two hours; moderate sediment. Garnet color. Nose of dark fruit and mint. The medium-bodied fruit on the palate is balance by the acids and tannins. Medium length finish is consistent with initial taset impression. This wine is probably not going to get better, and is more likely to now be in decline. Not nearly as good as the 2000 Scrio. Drink up. At $100+ per bottle, this is a poor QPR.

Tuscan dinner (Steak House restaurant, San Vincenzo): very similar to the 2001 vintage - which was consumed in parallel - but with the characters of a warmer vintage. dark purple tertiary spicy ripe fruity aromas with dome earthiness full bodied, firm integrated tannins, good acidity, well balanced, powerful, mouse filling, goes along well with Toscan dishes. Very pleasant lingering finish.
