  • Deep amber in the glass. Big fruit richness complemented by apricot jam, white flowers, dried fruit character. A bit simple for a beerenauslese, could also use more acid. Medium finish. Not the best edition from Kracher, but interesting to try this from a magnum.

  • Excellent vintage for this entry-level dessert wine of Kracher. Honey, resin, very fine acidity, never cloying. Fine now, will age well. - 91 points

  • Kracher is one of the greatest estates making dessert wines. Part of the success is being located near a huge lake on the border of Austria with Hungary that reliably provides the high humidity needed for the botrytis that shrinks and concentrates the grape flavors. Another major factor is the Kracher fanatically focuses almost exclusively on dessert wines. Finally, its expertise in making and marketing dessert wines is so commanding that many grape growers sell their grapes to Kracher rather than trying to make the wines themselves, which in turn gives Kracher a large source of very affordable grapes that allows him to produce high quality dessert wines at a surprisingly modest price. This generic Berenauslese Cuvee is the wine that can use any grape varietal from anywhere. The wine is aromatically inviting and is full of dried fruit flavors, and everything candied and sweet. Magnificient with chocolate, vanilla, tarts, pies, cakes, and cookies, partly because it is not only complex and rich, but has the acidity to keep it from becoming cloying. A wine that is truly great on release.

  • Kracher's modest(?) Beerenauslese, not trying to be exceptional, and that was maybe the key to the success of this wine. The very pure acidity matched perfectly with the not heavy sweetness; maybe not yet completely balanced but already a sheer delight to sip this wine with the unbaked apple pie from Jef (Texel); a very good choice made by Nadine.
