Burgundy tasting course Vinmonopolet (Sandnes): Garnet with clear rims. Red currant, lingonberries, strawberries, raspberries, mushroom, earthy, licorice, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose. Fruity and fresh on the palate. Balanced acidity. Long finish. Very good wine.

I would not normally dare open Jadot Chapelle so young, but for a group tasting with US and French Pinot Noir a robust 2016 seemed a wise choice.
bright deep red color, on the nose saddle leather and an intense blueberry note rising above a pool of pure cherries, crushed herbs and hints of aggressive dark spices, on the palate a fine burst of purest primary cherry fruit quickly leading into a firm and robust tannic structure, the finish is tight and fragrant with truly astonishing length, with 2 hours in decanter it opened enough to show more of the muscled depth of its young fruit core- but showed little else, it is no easy task to evaluate young Jadot wines as they are often austere to an extent that is impossibly removed from the glorious outcome until you have spent at least 10 years watching that transformation take place, even so- this is showing enough hints now to suggest the brightest of futures ahead after a good long rest in the cellar, I would also note that 2016 is a vintage in both Bordeaux and Burgundy that has often given me pause as the massive fruit seems to overwhelm the structure and nuance to a degree I have not before seen, but there is no such trouble here- this is a giant of a wine, but all of its components are in proper balance, and so this is one 2016 in which I have great faith.
(*****), 2030++, this may well turn out- like the incredible 2009 Bonnes-Mares- to be one of those Jadot wines that needs 25+ years of cellaring so my maturity time frame may prove optimistic.

The nose was floral with marine-infused minerals, red berries and soil tones, almost like digging through fresh soil in a berry patch. On the palate, I found soft textures with glossy ripe red fruits, inner florals, and earth, made fresh through balancing acidity. It finished long, with palate-staining red fruits and hints of sweet tannin.

Maison Jadot Cellar Visit and Barrel Tasting (Savigny-les-Beaune): Barrel tasting. Black cherry and berry, very meaty and dense. Concentrated from start-to-finish with a long finish, slightly backward and firm, but easily the best potential of the fraction of the Jadot 2016 lineup tasted today. 92-94 point potential.
