A nose of smoky meat rub, unlit matches, celery tips, a soy-ish umami note, dark fruit. The palate is definitely dense and concentrated. Dark and concentrated on the palate as well, inky and dense with some balsamic-berry glaze. Definitely a richer California Pinot — like others a have said, not clear which direction it’s developing in.

Still very dark purple. Looks young. Some funky aromatics along with saline and earth. The fruit is still very up front. Medium acidity. Finishes on a savory note. Not slipping but I don't have a guess on where it will go. Good showing from a vineyard that is not one of my favorites.

There's often sense of creaminess to these wines that's very appealing. Even after 10+ years, this wine still exhibits a youthful texture and a rich, expressive nose. Notes of red velvet cake, cherries, and candied cranberries. The palate is less generous and a bit more acidic, however, and it finishes on the rudy red grapefruit side of things. But it's a modern expression of pinot noir that still has plenty of life in it.

Ed Kurtzman Dinner (Luciana's, Dana Point, CA): Dark and still hanging on to its concentration of fruit. Although there's no whole cluster here I'm getting a stem note, I really to figure out what this is but we'll call it herbal for now.

Ed Kurtzman Comes To Dinner (2015) (Luciana's In Dana Point (South OC)): This has always been a wine close to my heart, as it sets in the history of my CA pinot experience and also what really created the relationship today I have with Ed K. It was part of the early Falltacular events and one that I will always be fond of. At 10 plus years, this wine is doing great. Lot of blue fruit, light grapefruit (which is the Rosella's terroir), and like the 05 AW Graham, this does show some ripe tones, but the fruit stays red and blue so for me, it bests out that Graham. Over dinner, I picked up a pure, strawberry jam note and unlike the Graham, I didn't see any secondary notes in this Rosella's. Drinking great right now.

(August West Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard) Medium red color with pale meniscus; lovely ripe cherry, berry and floral nose; cinnamon, ripe cherry, cardamom, rhubarb, sour cream palate with good acidity; medium-plus finish 92+ pts.

(AUGUST WEST ROSELLA'S PINOT NOIR) #4; COLOR-classic P/N; NOSE-true P/N, terroir, sweaty socks, mud bombs mixed w/ light & subtle strawberry, concrete; TASTE-nice wine, great body (heavier that I thought on the nose), clear-cut strawberry & black cherry jam flavor, subtle black pepper, attractive raspberry edge on the long finish, great integration of bark & cedar box, and leather (pleather), little young, but very silky smooth; GV-92
