Some Eclectic, Spectacular Wines; 8/13/2017-8/14/2017 (Santa Ynez Valley): My last bottle, and these will be remembered fondly. The crumbling cork did not belie a flawed bottle (for once!). Light bodied, with a beautifully perfumed nose and gentle layers of sweet cedared red fruit, distinctively minty. The acidity was quite evident, and there was a notable salinity as well. Gorgeous stuff.

Picked this up for a song at auction a few months back as a few of these were thrown in to round out a lot featuring cuvées I've come to adore: Hill of Grace and Mt. Edelstone. I think I paid about what it cost in AUD on release. Never having encountered this perhaps better positioned me to appreciate what was to come. At a minimum, I think the auction promise of perfect provenance can be considered verified. What a rare treat. Served at cellar temperature, no decant. Light bodied, almost ethereal, with a perfumed nose and gentle layers of sweet cedared red fruit, distinctively minty. The acidity was quite evident, and there was a notable salinity as well. A pretty amazing performance all in all.

Dry, crumbling cork, in contrast to a prior bottle which was a perfect specimen. Not oxidized, but very tired, with little fruit showing.
