No formal tasting note, drank this last night in Hakkasan Mayfair London during diner with my friend Alex. Very interesting and atypical Alsacian wine, a blend of many local grapes. Color stands out being deep golden with brown hue (could also have been the light cause it is quite dark in Hakkasan). Perfumed and oxidative nose. Upon tasting it made me think of savignin based wines both in taste and style. Paired perfectly with the dumplings and grilled octopus. Great reco from the sommelier and glad I discovered this!

Four Marcel Deiss Field Blends (Wellington, NZ): Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir vines planted between 1977 – 1997, at 8,000 – 12,000 vines per ha. Gravels on white soil. Deep gold, similar to the Rotenberg. This cuvée was the exception in terms of changing the most in the glass. It was at its best for about two hours after opening, then it seemed to get harder on the palate and shut down becoming a lesser version of itself, but one that did not change again over the course of the next two days … Particularly initially, a lovely bouquet of white flowers, lemon and grapefruit citrus, spices, peaches, dusty rocks, passion fruit and minerals. On the palate, plenty of fruit weight and power. Tactile, impressive mouthfeel. Similar citric, orchard and some tropical fruit flavours to those on bouquet with ginger, minerals and rock salt. Relatively long but with some bitterness or hardness on the finish, that was softened by food. I doubt this cuvée will be long-lived, but perhaps ideally it needs another 2-3 years before opening?. Initially, 92, then 91.
