Tasted blind. Notes of coffee old leather and prunes. Had no problem nailing it as a Brunello. Smooth tannins, quite powerful but lacking finesse. Can age further.

Had a 1999 and 2000 last night (thanks, ER). 2000: initially quite tight on the nose, but opened up a lot in the glass. Firm tannins and a very good balance. Earthy notes were beginning to emerge, but probably only at an early stage. Many years of cellar potential, if one want these tertiary notes to come through. But with a delicious, hearty Boeuf Stroganoff, the tannins were most welcome. Long lingering finish. 1999: Very elegant on the nose and some promising depth. More "earthy" than the 2000. On the palate more mellow tannins. Really elegant wine. Maybe a few more years of potential in the cellar. But no need to wait.
Mature disc. Burly, potent nose full of fig, dark fruits, spice, bitters & cedar. A rich, seamless palate - the above and a hint of iodine? The tannins are still a little coarse, but this is well built. Just starting to really drink now (with some air) and this will age nicely. Traditional lines with just a touch of modern Brunello.

Wonderful again - but bottle variation gave different profile. Tannins resolved. Sweeter red fruit nose - less leather; more cherry and bitter herb on the palate. Powerfully dark - some liquorice. 92

The tannins mellowed with an hour or so of air and it rounded out nicely with food. Herbs, rather than fruit, is the overriding impression.
