  Bit of a surprise this one. Have been very down on the 2014 vintage in Barolo after a horizontal tasting of the young wines but this was lovely . It’s quite light and a very elegant style. Maybe a touch too lean but the fruit and floral aspects more than make it for that. The nose is even better than the palate and is maybe signposting that this will get even better in the short term. Will have to reassess my views on 2014 Barolo.4-

  Italian wines and I have never become too acquainted, mostly because there are so many variations that it makes Burgundy look simple. But a while back a friend gave me a basic Langhe bottling by Massolino and it was a very pleasant surprise. Going a notch up to their Barolo, the surprise at the quality was gone but the appreciation of it was increased. Barolo = tar and roses in the classic tasting notes, but this showed none of the former and much of the latter, along with darker red fruits. A really lovely bottle of wine.
