  • Drank this over 3 days. Day 1 was straight pop-and-pour about 2-3 glasses, cork back in and left on the counter. Day 2 was just pouring one small glass and corking it again and back on the counter. Day 3 was drinking the last 2-3 glasses.

On Day 1 the wine was extremely rough, rustic and powerful. Very grippy and, for my personal taste, unpleasant tannins that really attacked the gums. Very, very dark fruits, dirt, tar, leather, smoke and black pepper.

On Day 2 it felt like the tannins had resolved a bit and it had given way to a bit more elegant fruit, and the dark cherry, strawberry, blackberry and chokeberry started showing. But overall the same notes and feeling as Day 1 was still very much there.

Day 3 resembled Day 2 quite a bit. Didn't seem like the tannins had resolved any more and it was still a very masculine, rustic and powerful Barolo.

For me this definitely needs many more years in the cellar.

  • Same bottle tasted in March and consistent with that experience. Not a pretty Barolo. Rather, rustic, substantive, and gripping. Recommend holding for several years. Correct in all regards. 91-92.

  • From magnum and showing as expected after a disappointing (?slightly flawed) 75cl noted a few days ago. Still forward but with pleasing cherry, gentle earthy frame, dusty tannins, dry spice and floral nuances with an assertive if integrated core acidity. Medium bodied with a long dry finish. Excellent enough if not top draw nor for the long term in my opinion.
Now (well breathed) and up to, say, 14 years from vintage.

  • Drinkable but not sure that this bottle was in perfect knick - seemed prematurely aged, pale and slightly edgy. Will try another in due course - nowhere near my 91pt 2021 outing.

  • Coravin access. Tasted alongside the same vintage Vajra Bricco delle Viole and PdB Montefico.

The least impressive of the three wines, and also quite restrained. Somewhat muted bouquet, of tart and sweet red berries, hibiscus, rose hip, raspberry leaf tea, cut tobacco, savory herbs, and menthol.

Correct in all regards, though nothing stood out. Medium minus body, for Barolo, and fairly high-pitched. A touch biting at the back. Interesting and likely to evolve for another decade or so. Not the equal of other vintages of this label. Quality nonetheless.
