Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 94 points

  • Parker 100 pointer blind tasting set. Floral nose with hawthorne, citrus, touch of vanilla. The palate is unctuous clearly pointing towards Southern Rhone. Stays fresh and not too thick. I guessed Viogner. Good for sure but not so much my style of white. I like it crisper.

  • This wine was quite disappointing. My expectations were much higher, having had the incredible Chave Hermitage Blanc 2017 (97+ pts) just weeks before and given the high praises by the critics (100 WA, 98 Decanter, WS, Dunnuck, 96 Vinous). While it‘s certainly a good wine, it didn‘t show overly complex nor as weightless, elegant and fresh as the Chave. Maybe it‘s in an awkward phase and will show much more layered in a few years. Dunnuck & WineSpectator both advice not to open the wine until 2023 and that would be my recommendation too. Question only is, how many years the acidity will carry the wine. Not sure, it can really go 20-25 years as it is said to

TN: The wine was best in the first few minutes (95 pts) with lots of floral and citrus aromas along some orchard fruits. It lost a bit of expression and freshness with time. Only hints of minerality appearing on the palate. Very harmonious without edges but at times a bit too fat, not as weightless and fresh as a wine of this pedigree is expected to be. Gets some points deducted for subpar expression, intensity, depth and structure. Still it is undoubtedly a very good wine and you can sense that there is more in store in the future.

Decanting: Not decanted, I would try to decant it for a few hours (4-6h) but probably better just wait a few years.

  • Tasted blind. Lots of pear fruit, over time adding citric angles and green banana. Overall a great intensity nose also showing peppery aromas. Fresh acidity with a more citric fruit profile on the palate, nice and round. Just hints of salty minerality. Finely knit, nicely layered texture. I liked this a lot and no doubt bottle age will help. But at this juncture no match for the outstanding Chave Hermitage 2017.

  • Wine Advocate 1000-point dinner in NYC (Gabriel Kreuther): Restrained mineral nose. Bold on the palate with crushed citrus, honeysuckle, river rocks. Long finish.

  • Découvertes en Vallée du Rhône; 4/15/2019-4/16/2019 (Ampuis, Mauves and Tain-l'Hermitage): Walk around tasting talking with the producers, brief note. 100% Marsanne, 85% in barrel, of which 10% was new oak. Like the Oree in terms of its complexity, but a little more extravagant and less harmonious. Perhaps this just needs more time? 93+ point potential.
