The '17 Brunate opens with expressive aromatics of rich, spicy dark red to black berry fruits, blood orange, exotic spices, violet, and sage. The nose reminded me a lot of what I recall from the 2016 Vietti Brunate, albeit less complex and less explosive - this bottling from Vietti seems to have distinct spicy, exotic aromatics. On the palate, the wine has nice energy with a good amount of acidity and inner sweetness, and I found exotic spices, black cherry fruit, exotic floral tones, and minerality. The texture was medium to light in body with the tannins poking out quite a bit at this stage, and the tannins here are slightly grainy and quite drying on the finish.
Overall, the '17 Brunate has a classic flavor profile with very nice aromatics that reminds me of the '16 - just a bit simpler and less concentrated - but I thought this wine showed some of the textural issues that can arise in '17, where the wine might be a bit on the lighter side in terms of concentration but have significant drying tannins. If the tannins integrate well in a reasonable timeframe, I could see this being worth a few more points.

The most expressive of the ’17 Crus at this early juncture. Generous and giving, with plenty of briary, wild berry notes. It is rich, spicy and layered, with a plush feel against the gums and ample tannins buried well below the flesh.

The ‘17 Brunate is, once again, the most seductive of the Vietti crus from this tasting, showing sweet floral and mineral tones up front, giving way to ripe strawberry and bright cherry fruit in a remarkably pretty display. On the palate, I found velvety textures, enveloping the senses in a cloak of polished black cherry fruits, underscored by a core of fine tannin, coming across as a bit monolithic in this early stage, yet like a bomb waiting to go off. The finish was long and structured, turning slightly toward the exotic, as sweet, floral-laced, ripe red berry fruit slowly tapered off. (93-95 points)

Amazing, didn’t decant long enough. A lot of tannins and structure given the relatively young age. Need probably 2-3 hours

Ripe, rich and spicy. Has a core of black cherry. There’s a flex of sinewy tannins to the finish.
