The OG of Martinborough. Bought years ago, forgot about it to see the results. Effortless drinking, but with interest - finesse and slight dried quality to the fruit. Probs at peak c.1y ago.
N: Roses, dried cherry, brown sugar, old oak, tree bark, dried leaves.
P: Medium-light body, effortless and silky. Dried strawberry, sweet stems. Subtle plum skin phenolic grip, med- tannins and med acid knit it all together.
F: Prickly sour cherry and dried raspberry, old leather, cream, earthy spices.

Keith Cooper's note is spot on for me. Nice bright and focussed red berry fruits with a bit of depth and spice behind them. Balances the sweet intensity of fruit with some more savoury characteristics, all wrapped up in a very attractive modern style Pinot that is accessible while elegant.

T....odd and unattractive green unripe edge to this PN, possibly the wet cool 2017 yr in lower North Island; some decent fruit with a tad concentration at the end; furry tannins, alc seems out of balance, weirdly warm; disappointing and 'simple'.
VFM?....poor even at the promo price.

Tasted at The Wine Society's tasting of New Zealand wines, London, UK. Light Burgundian colour. Lovely, fresh nose, showing strawberries, peaches, mint. Light bodied, still appearing young, confident it will develop. Great match with the steak canape.

Approachable, true to its roots. Yes a step down from the estate bottling, but a fair price for a genuine wine.
