Flavors of cherry, strawberry, leather with some tannins up front which mellowed after one hour of breathing after being uncorked. Impressive flavors for a Sangiovese.

Flaccianello in general is one of my favorite wines and in my view one of the best expressions of Sangiovese. I Last tried one of these 2016s two years ago and although younger I liked it better. I wonder if this has shut down for a while now. I slow ox’d for about five hours and then decanted for two. Still very tannic, medium acidity, black fruit, some mint and oak with a long finish, but less complex than the last bottle and somehow not as well balanced. I will wait another couple years at least before trying the next bottle.

- No detailed notes, tasted blind - Flaccia 2016 offered a quiet dark fruity, herbal aroma profile. Tasted blind, I felt so much toscany herbs and sensed a rather ripe fruit, which is why I would have rather guessed a bordeaux blend of the region. the wooden flavours were well integrated, the lightness was somewhat missing, but the acidity is there and balances the rather full body well. Needs some time for the intense, ripe fruit to settle a little (if you prefer slender Sangiovese).

Had expected more from this power wine! Tried to decant it to make the wine open up, it seemed somewhat closed and not really showing its potential and the qualities that it undoubtedly has. My assumption is that it was probably opened outside its optimum drinking window - it may benefit from another 3-5 years (or more) in the cellar, or if enjoyed now give it additional decanting.

Loaded with black fruit . Still a lot of tannin. Wait at least 3 more years.
