Poured through Vinturi and sat in decanter for an hour. 1st glass was massive. A big bold wine, with classic Sangiovese flavours of cherries, blackberries, leather. Long dry finish. Absolutely crying out for more air. The wine opened up significantly after another hour. Much sweeter on the palate and smoother tannins. Vacuum-sealed it and on day 2 it was even smoother and sweeter, persistent cherries and plums, although some of the opulence had worn off. In “Drops of God” speak, the experience of drinking this big boy conjured up the imagery of ‘The Taming of Bucephalus’. Looking forward to my 2007 bottle, but that may still need a few more years of cellaring!

Lovely again. The cedar and balsamic notes were less pronounced in this bottle.

Perfectly developed now. Great sour-sweet cherry fruit, noble wood and a long dry finish.

Prune, bay leaf, tobacco, wet dog. Mouth on tobacco with long finish on acidity. Was good on opening, but fading fast.
