  • Popped and poured after I found an old note declaiming potential cork taint...fortunately this was not the case so happily consumed...lots of fresh cherry, juicy acidity, talc textured super persistent tannins. Lovely.

  • Good Barbaresco. Very pretty nose. Beautiful rose and white flowers. Tobacco. Cured meat. Pure cherry and strawberry.

Palate has medium high acidity and high tannins. Very elegant delivery of fruit and florality. Was very tight for the first 2 hours with the tannins shutting the wine down on the finish, but once it opened up the finish was long and elegant. Was nervous about some heat damage here but no signs of it. A bit of warming alcohol on the finish.

Would recommend a generous decant or more time in the cellar. For a site (Rio Sordo) known for its more immediate appeal, especially in a vintage like ‘15, I was expecting less power and more approachability, but this could cruise in the cellar if desired.

  • Single vineyard from Produttori. Still one of the greatest producers in barbaresco.

    Beautiful ruby color, pale intensity.

Medium intensity in the nose, and what a nose. The entrance is floral, rose, violet, and beautiful strawberries. On top of that, balsamic notes, especially eucalyptus and licorice. The lack of secondary notes hints at the use of big oak containers. Eight years move the tertiary into forest floor, tar, meat, tobacco, mushroom, hints of bouquet garni. A complex nose multilayered and dynamic over time.

In the mouth, the wine is nervous, very active, and powerful. The entrance is dominated by acidity (high) and tannins (high, slightly green). The midpalate gives alcohol and body, beautifully paired with the acidity. Finally, the aftertaste is long, and deep, with oak influence (chocolate? coffee?) and some recalls of primary notes, violet and strawberries.

An incredible product. Not perfect in the mouth, with slightly edgy tannins and a little bit too much alcohol, but nebbiolo rarely gets better than that in the nose.

  • Coravin fun - Piedmont (My place, Kent Street): Hmm, very very slight cork taint here…medium minus intensity aromas of a little chalky minerality, a little cherry and fruit tea, sweet plum. Pronounced acidity chalky drying tannins close the palate down, tiny smidge of fruit beneath this. Fairly monolithic, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Come back in a millennia.

  • 2015 Produttori & Friends (Nella Kitchen & Bar, Los Olivos, CA): Slightly lighter weight than the other riservas, lifted and pretty. Sharp at first, the wine softened and came into balance over time, finishing with a touch of caramel and sweet tannins.
