  • First evening half an hour or so after opening, good lively nose perhaps with some of those cedar notes mentioned, wine with lovely raisiny concentration, but with enough bottle age too still drink nicely, and have an elegant feel to it without being a really bomb of concentration and oak which it may have once been. On first night of opening there seemed to be a little unbalanced twinge of oak on the finish but this seemed to have blended better into the wine after it had been given 24 hours to open.

With the extra day, the wine seemed to show more of its complexity and feel more of a balanced whole though the nose seemed to have faded somewhat.

Some may say the edge has gone off this but I would be happy to drink this vintage of this wine again now or in another year or two's time (though perhaps won't hold out much more than that...)

  • Drank it a little past prime but still an excellent wine. Beautiful light Ruby. Rim a bit orange-brown, again owing to the age. Hints of plum and raisin on the nose. Medium body with a nice long, soft finish. A bit short lived out of the bottle. Clearly a magnificent wine in its day. Would have been a jewel about 2-3 years ago.

  • Wonderful stuff. Brick red, with a great nose of cedar, dirt, red fruits, and black licorice. Great structure, well balanced, nice tannins. This one lingers in the mouth for a long finish.
