Anniversary Dinner (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Remarkable elegance and fragrance at this young age, the style reminds me of Rousseau in this vintage, crushed red berries and forest floor, supple and fresh and juicy but with a seamless firm core of acidity and papery tannins, playful and fragrant finish with a touch of sweet oak and excellent length. Hardly Clos de Vougeot as I know it, but I really like this interpretation.

Aromas of rose petals and black cherry. It is rich and powerful, with great depth and high mineral content. It is very Clos Vougeot but also ethereal and light on its feet. There’s terrific persistence of flavour.

Attractive balance, but nothing that really wows. Expected more whole bunch character for aromatics.

Janselijn Wines & Verkerk Wines Burgundy v. Tuscany Tasting (Restaurant The Lobby Fizeaustraat, Hotel V, Amsterdam, NL): Trade tasting, brief note. Grand Cru ampleur, ripe fruit, marries stature and elegance, well structured but already harmonious, needs time to develop the complexity on the finish. From 2027.
