At Sir Peter Michael’s Vineyard Hotel in Newbury, UK. Available for 1/4 the retail price in the US. Decanted 30 minutes and followed over 90. This was a wonderfully fresh bottle with an effusive nose of tar and cigars, boysenberries, and mint. Velvety smooth with a big foretaste of cherry jam followed by big licorice and kirsch on the way down. Long finish. Evolved to put on more weight over time. I think this was more intellectual and frankly better than most first bottlings out of CdP. A stunner. Drinking at peak but seems like it can hold effortlessly for another 5-10 years with it’s still strong fruit (but not sure how many of the original 7,000 bottles are left - I removed it from the wine list with this one).

Opened at 3pm both reserve and pignan. The reserve started off with the more attractive nose, but the palate was not fully developed and closed. The reserve the more complex wine at the beginning and certainly more layered due to the older vines? The pignan got better with more air and towards the 5-6 hour mark started to surpass the reserve with a more fresh and concentrated palate. The reserve was a little short on the finish towards the end. So surprised with the pignan tonight.

4th of 12, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level, as June's bottle, a smaller scale Rayas with less marinated strawberry, more plum and cola, but pushing VA almost to limit. Upside here. VF (18.5).

Typical Rayas flavor profile… lots of strawberry fruit, light and elegant. Really great stuff.
