Beautiful golden elixir. Way sweeter than I anticipated. But what a delicious wine! Pronounced petrol is perfectly balanced by the sweet and juicy fruit.

Beautiful golden color followed by a very unique and mineral-driven nose of wet slate, iron, smoke, and a mix of citrus and tropical fruits. It is not as sweet as it used to be, to the point of revealing very little presence of residual sugar. It is medium bodied, rich, and very pleasurable in the mouth, very well-balanced. There remains a nice acidic structure which suggests a few more years is left, but it was pretty good during Thanksgiving dinner. As other tasters have noted, the red clay, iron soil feature of the vineyard is very notable, making this a very unique and interesting experience. This is nicely melded with orange/mango fruit flavors and your more typical lychee notes. Compared to '01 DZH Pinot Gris Clos Windsbulhl (opened a few months ago), the '05 Rotenberg is less massive and rich, but perhaps slightly more distinctive with the mineral-driven profile.

Lobster night at home. Showing beautifully today but not yet at peak. Tremendous Rotenberg red clay influence is obvious from the get go. Pure fruit sensations mix with the iron based soil to make a really complete wine. Will drink well for at least another decade. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5=93

Rich, spicy, viscous. My eyes bulged when I took my first sip. Such spicy character and an underlying sweetness balanced with some acidity to just about keep it fresh. A bitter kick at the end which I found unpleasant at first but appreciated the more that I drank.

Singing. Mineral, apricot, candied kumquat and mission fig. Medium short finish is the only thing holding it back.
