  • To acknowledge, I have limited experience with Pinot Gris but I do love good Riesling. My first surprise was how Riesling-like this was and, putting aside the initial taste open opening, I would not have known the difference. On initial opening there was a hint of apples and fine orchard fruits with a touch of minerals and elegance, but that faded away rather quickly to high acidity and became rather one dimensional.

I was a disappointed with this wine. For some reason I was expecting a lower acid wine, so was surprised at the high acidity. The elegance described by the professional reviewers was missing....minerals, saline, dried flowers, honeyed notes, buttery pear fruit, spices and almonds...none of those were present over the two days, outside of perhaps the first 10 minutes after opening.

As the producer gives the aging window of 2025-2038, I can only assume it is much, much too early for this wine.

  • This bottle follows another bottle of the same wine that was completely oxidized and completely disappointing. This is not that bottle at all--it IS a fairly dark yellow-god color, but this one is fresh, lively, and refreshing. A bit steely and minerally but lacks the sharpness and soaring acidity of some PGs from the U.S. and some Italian producers. This has a good acid backbone, but also the fruit to match (think golden delicious apples) and beautiful balance. Much better than I had even hoped for after the last bottle. Recommended without reservations. 5-12-16-9: 92/100.

  • This wine offers flavors of mango, dry honey, marzipan, and lime on a slightly effervescent body. While I like the wine, I don’t think it has the profundity or intensity to merit the pro critics’ scores of 94-95.

  • Good wine with flavors of light honeyed pears, lime, and sea salts. Tropical aromatic overtones. Plenty of energy and body. Didn’t impress me as much as it impressed some critics, who gave it 95 scores.
