(MARSAU Cotes de Francs) UPDATE: Giacosa It has come to my attention that Premier Cru is selling the 2004 Giacosa Barolo la Morra and they seem to have decent quantities. While I cannot vouch for the provenance, that is a price that is too good to pass up. The wholesale cost on the wine is a lot higher than that - a lot higher. As a wine consumer, a price discrepancy like that is too much to ignore (I think we charged $200+, I don't remember the exact price but our margin was quite slim even at our price). While this is probably retail suicide, I'm putting my foot down here (against the pleading of many) and allowing anyone that wishes to return the wine to do so (it's being delivered next week so I need to know by Monday if you wish to cancel). We will return the wine no questions asked - it's the right thing to do. If it's available for $100-150 less somewhere else, I'm not doing my job if I don't tell you about it. No, this "return policy" does not apply to other wines - Please do not ask. I feel as though our prices are generally quite competitive but in this case, it's a joke. If you wish to return your 2004 Giacosa La Morra (only this bottle, no returns on the 2004 Falletto), please email Melisa and she will be happy to do so: melisa@garagistewine.com Have a good weekend (you better buy some other wine from us today so I can make up for the returns!) - Jon Rimmerman ******************************** Bordeaux Dear Friends, More cheap Bordeaux... After the 2002 Gigault offer, I asked if any other 2002s were available at half price - they laughed at me...and then offered this: 2002 Chateau Marsau sitting since release, untouched and aging at 53 degrees just like the Gigault. I remember tasting this wine from barrel five years ago and it was just too awkward, even for a barrel sample. I walked away and said "no thanks" but they opened one anyway and asked if I would at least try it - what a difference. Five or six years in the bottle and a little wonder wine is starting to emerge - it has lost the rugged edges that I remember and it is going to be enjoyed by a wide number of you. While not quite as great as the 2000 or 2001 Marsau (I think Parker gave 90 or 91pts to both) it's still half price and it's not that dissimilar at this stage: A certain house wine for many of you that has gained a lovely texture of velvet over the years - probably at peak now and over the next 2-3 years, it's another wine that requires nothing but your desire for wine to enjoy (i.e leave the critical banter for another occasion - this isn't about overt complexity ). Another crazy price on a perfectly cellared trove of Bordeaux - will arrive in a few weeks (I took the bottle home and it was actually better after 2-3 hours, so I would decant it for an hour or two - maybe it has more left in the tank than I think due to the perfect storage?) ONE SHIPMENT ONLY AT THIS PRICE (I'd like to limit this to checks/cash only again but you can use a credit card on this one if you want) 2002 Chateau Marsau (Cotes de Francs) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord8805
