  • A very pretty wine given the weak vintage. Bright red fruit which didnt drop off in the 2hours we took to finish. In fact, evolved and got rounder. Impressive substance for a 04. Only some hollowness/ greenness in the middle but overall still admirable effort

  • During a blind tasting dinner. Very stemmy nose here pointing to marginal ripeness but overall still quite pleasurable with food. Good complexity with red fruit and earhty elements.

  • drunk alongside the Combe Aux Moines which, on the night, I very much preferred - this was quite closed and needs a lot more time - leave at least three or even five years

  • Same btl as R&Rler. Clearly, this is an example of a great producer knowing how to make silk from the pig's ear vintage that was 2004! Fortunately, I got suspicious early on of 2004 and only bought a few singletons to try on release. In a night with some confounding wines this was the most so. Jimmy opened this as a duct tapped mystery wine and we all took our shots guessing what it was only to be completely surprised it was 13 year old 2004 drinking like it a 2014 Burg??? Exceedingly sound, fresh and downright youthful????!!! WTF! Once revealed it made complete sense it was a Fourier with it's telltale, walk up to the edge, of over ripeness and yet maintain perfect and beguiling balance. Red fruited, earth, spicy and complex without one marker of the crappy shit vintage that 2004 was/is. I'd be very happy to own some of these and checked my WS Pro is see if nay bargains still existed but none to be had.

  • Red Burgs and More at Mr. Jimmy's Farewell to Irving (Jimmy's Place, Mpls): Another blind bonus bottle from Jimmy. PNP, and in keeping with our theme tonight - another pinot, pegged by everyone as clearly Burgundy. The reveal, brought some surprises as it was '04, and no green meanies here at all. This was earthy, spiced, youthfully fresh, raspberry, spice box, wood spice, and nice acid. Thanks for that pleasant surprise!
