  • Bordeaux, and the Médoc especially with flaming Cabernets, performed in 2019 and this Deyrem Valentin perfectly illustrates this success. Fairly priced, it must be considered very seriously. It's composed of 55% Cab Sauv, 43% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It was aged in 47% new French oak. The wine was decanted about 1h30 before the tasting then enjoyed throughout lunch in a magnificent Riedel Superleggero Bordeaux Grand Cru glass. The nose offers a fragrant bouquet of great freshness with well-defined aromas of sweet berries, raspberries, cherry blossom, crushed stones and espresso framed by a discreet toastiness from the oak. The palate is barely medium-bodied with plenty of vigorous tannins. It's really harmonious: fruity on the entry, round, compact and ample in the middle with a delicate and nice acidity, finishing quite long and almost saline on red fruits layers and hints of licorice, graphite and wood. To hold a few more years to get the full benefits, but it's already succulent. Such a beautiful work!

  • Dark reddish-purple garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruits aromas of cherries, cassis & raspberries with overtones of floral & dusty/earthy notes, spices, graphite, herbs, tobacco leaf, cedar, minerals & a touch of oak/vanilla. in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & a bit of vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging. I concur with La Cave D'Argent about the lesser wines from Bordeaux speaks volumes about the quality of the 2019 vintage. At risk of repeating myself, buyers should consider these engaging Bordeaux since they represent a better value than many overpriced Napa Cabs.

  • The 2019 iteration of Château Deyrem Valentin is an opaque crimson blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, aged for 16 months in French oak barriques (47% new, 53% once-used). Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over three hours, it serves up an aromatic profile of black currant and Morello cherry fruit, accented with notes of fig, baking spices, pencil shavings and savory herbs. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14%), it delivers a flavor payload that mirrors the the aromas. The tannins are plentiful but silky-textured and the dense mid-palate adds notes of graphite. Lengthy and supple on the back end, this humble Margaux speaks volumes about the quality of the 2019 vintage. It should provide enjoyment well into the next decade. If you choose to pop the cork at this early stage, give it at least an hour of air. Drink now-2034.

  • Forest-floor, wet earth, tobacco leaf, red currants and plums create the core of this wine. Medium-bodied, soft, polished, sweet, fresh and vibrant, with a touch of espresso coinciding with all the round, vibrant plums in the finish. Drink from 2023-2035.

2022-2034. (Juni 2020)
