Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 88 points

  • Although the storage conditions of this wine were questionable, I was surprisingly pleased by how it showed. The aromas of bell pepper, licorice, warm vanilla and oak with a powerful attack of plums and black fruits remained concentrated, even after all these years. On the palate, it held true to the fruit aromas, but was just a bit hot (13.4%), which detracted from the overall appeal. Still, the rich fruit and powerful core of flavors combine with a velvety texture, which yet retains some ripe tannins, suggesting that this Merlot can age a few more years and be enjoyable. Be warned, I'm not a big fan of California Merlot (much prefer the best of St-Emilion and Pomerol), so my score could be a touch lower than yours!
