  • Still a baby but showing so well. No notes but vibrant, complex, at the same time concentrated and balanced. Mmmmm. Delish! At Blair's, EWG 2002 retrospective.

  • ONe of many wines I kinda bumped into when reorganizing my cellar. A real Aha!-experience and an old-time favorite.
Light and bright yellow in the glass. Subtle complexity. Mouthwatering hints of green tea, jasmin, ginger, white pepper, lemonpeel, white peach and wet rocks. Wonderful balance between sweetness, freshness, salinity and acidity. This is all about refinement.
Drinking beautifully now, and the following decade.
    A classic Mosel beauty.

  • Day 3. From 375ml. I took this to Riesling Study #5 over the weekend and brought some home. Deep and dark and somewhat reticent. Brown sugar, mint, tangerine, vanilla extract. More open on the palate - mint, molasses, brown sugar, apricot, orange. Not heavy, and there is underpinning acid, but definitely not racy or light. Finish is lighter and well balanced and perfumed - again mint and molasses, some stone fruits and a bit of tangerine. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5-16/20.

So this has been open over a month (date is 6/24/21). I really like it now - nose showing peach, vanilla, cream, botrytis and the palate similar - not particularly grippy but really complex and wide and fine.

  • Quick note two days after. Still light yellow gold. Nice nose. Fresh and yet fairly lightweight for a GKA with sweetness fading and decent acidity. Still, delightful to drink. Drinking more like a Spatlese. Followed this with a 2005 Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke GKA which was much darker and richer but not as good.

  • Noticed this one's cork had pushed out about 1cm and was leaking, so I decided to open it (375ml). Nothing to fear, it turns out. This is light yellow gold in color. The nose is rich and spicy, with clear Botrytis, but also with great energizing acidity - lots of sweetness and fruit, but there is serious sharpness and bite from the acid. The nose shows marmalade, persimmon, quince, brown spices, chili pepper, fruitcake, apricot. The entry on the palate begins with some honey and fruit, and I thought that it would be heavy and a bit cloying, but that didn't happen. For most of the palate, you don't really feel the acid, but it balances the sweetness very well and gives the wine a lightness that's wonderful. The flavors themselves are a bit deeper than the nose or the mouthfeel might indicate: persimmon, apricot, honey, brown spices, chili peppers, peach, a touch of honey and even molasses - the flavors make it seem thicker than it is. The finish is spicy and sweet with dusty botrytis giving some bitterness, and the acid pushes the length even longer. This is really excellent. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17-18/20.
