  • Super refined riesling bouquet, honey, fresh citrus, an impression of wood/vanilla, very precise with a superb balance between sour and sweet. The wine keeps its freshness. I can only say that the wine missed a bit concentration in the midtaste. Still in perfect condition for another 10 (?) years.

  • double decanted 5 hours prior to serving with bottle reopened 1 hour prior to serving

bright light yellow color, when first opened bananas the most prominent of the many fruit notes, on serving- now the nose includes soft and sweet citrus, peaches, on the palate lovely, ginger note, sweet limes, cream, succulent, the classic grapefruit note very subtle in this example, a fine finish of good length and persistence but it does lose some of its potency rather quickly (a small nit- but noticeable given the otherwise absolutely pristine presentation), sweet mineral notes, lemon and orange driven acid notes robed in cream, fully mature and in its full glory, will hold but very much ready to go now- and given how quickly this has evolved for a 2001 (this is the first time I have tried a 2001 that I thought was fully ready) I would advise drinking within the next few years while letting the superb Goldkapsel #12 (tasted earlier this year) and #13 Auction have a little more cellar time. ****, now to 2025.

  • Interesting aromas of petrol and lemongrass. Honeyed orchard fruit on the palate. Good concentration, but overly sweet and flat, with inadequate acidity and minerality. When I taste a wine like this, I wonder why the winemaker stopped the fermentation at 7.5% alcohol.

  • Supreme purity, graceful - with intensity. Not a hugely sweet wine, but nicely sweet balanced by acidity, white fruits.

  • Quite a change since our last bottle 5 years ago. Less sweet, leaner, more complex. In transition, perhaps. [AP 09]
