Very northern Rhone in style. This wine still retains a fresh and powerful black and white pepper component on the nose. The fruit has slightly faded on the palate, but it is still drinking quite well - although for how much longer, it's hard to tell...

Pronounced white pepper/spicy and a hint of floral on the nose. Meaty taste and fairly long finish. Gimblett Gravels certainly produces a white peppery meaty wines - a different take on syrah - this region is producing some interesting wines.

Dinner at Chris Freemott's (Chicago): A lot of oak dominated the nose at first - after a few hours in the decanter though, this was showing beautifully with perfumed aromas of white pepper, smoke, meat, dark fruits, Asian spices and flowers. More dark fruits and spice follow on the palate, which doesn't quite live up to the gorgeous nose.

Great nose - peppery. Taste is more balanced with good structure compared to other wines from the region. Need to get hold of more of these!

Decanter New World Fine Wine Encounter (The Royal Lancaster Hotel, London W2): Dense purple in the glass, I found aromas of earth, roasted pepper and mushroom on the nose. The palate showed some fruit, but mainly meaty characters. Maybe already past its best.
